The Paper

The Golden Mail is the Goldfields only free community weekly newspaper. With over 13,000 copies distributed before 8am Friday, it provides saturation circulation to every household and business in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Kambalda. Frequently publishing in excess of 40 pages, this quality colour newspaper covers the majority of real estate and automotive advertising. It out-circulates its paid rival by almost two to one and covers the outback towns of Coolgardie, Norseman, Leonora and Menzies.

The Market

Kalgoorlie-Boulder is the regional centre for the Eastern Goldfields with a population of just over 40,000. The city is a growth area with heavy demand for houses and land, while most of the population is made up of young families.

Three major industries make up Kalgoorlie-Boulder - mining, pastoral and tourism.

When people think of Kalgoorlie they think of gold. The Golden Mile and Paddy Hannan are names synonymous with the region. Nickel mining is also big business with the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter processing ore from around the area. Total value of mineral production for th region is $4,121 million.

There are 81 huge pastoral properties stretching out from the City to the Nullarbor Plain. Over half a million sheep produce excellent wool in this $12 million industry.

Finally, tourism is the third biggest industry with around 100,000 tourists visiting the area, most in private vehicles. As a result incomes are very high in the area, with a constant population turn-over.

Based 600km east of Perth and 400km inland from the south coast, Kalgoorlie-Boulder services Kambalda, Coolgardie, Norseman, Menzies, Leonora, Laverton and the many mine sites and isolated mining camps in the region. It is a dry climate with an annual rainfall of only 250mm per year. It is a bustling, vibrant city with an emphasis on exploration and mining and home to professional and well paid miners and contractors.

All major banks and retail chains are represented in the city with a high regard for excellent sporting and cultural facilities. Kalgoorlie-Boulder is serviced by a variety of air, bus and passenger rail services.
