The Paper

The Midwest Times is the only newspaper serving the entire Mid West. The paper is produced each week on a Wednesday and is distributed to every home and business throughout the entire region. As well as the latest, in-depth news, the Midwest Times includes a four page liftout Living on the Land and Working on the Sea for readers in the agricultural and fishing communities, including the Abrolhos Islands. There are also arts and entertainment pages, sports pages and regular features on gardening, weddings, health and lifestyle and accommodation.AK100

The Market

The Mid West encompasses three main industries: mining, agriculture and fishing.

The region is home to the largest lobster fishing industry in Australia and developments in aquaculture are likely to maintain the Mid West as the State’s premier commercial fishing region.

The Mid West is also the second largest producer of gold in the state and the majority of production is based on gold, mineral sands, zinc, petroleum products and natural gas.

Wheat production in the region represents 20 per cent of the states’ total production. Continued diversification combined with increased investment, particularly in tourism infrastructure, will ensure the region’s continued economic growth.
