The Paper

The Braidwood Times is a well established voice of the Braidwood community. Published each Wednesday and with a growing circulation of more than 700 copies each week, it presents news of the many happenings throughout the rural areas through which it circulates. The Times has a focus on achievement and reflects a community diversifying into the arts and retailing its rich heritage.

The Market

Braidwood is a thriving, bustling centre, with sheep, cattle, fruit, vegetables and horse-based industries. It is also a fast growing tourist destination. Nestled close to the escarpment which separates the South Coast coastal strip from the Southern Highlands and Canberra, the entire township of Braidwood is classified by the National Trust.

Its many beautiful old buildings now house galleries, craft shops and cafes which display a rich and varied collection of paintings, photographs, pottery, glass, wool, fashion and ironmongery, produced by local artisans. Together with the multitude of graceful old houses around the district, Braidwood has been increasingly used for shooting successful Australian films such as “The Year My Voice Broke”, “Ned Kelly” and more recently “Dad and Dave” along with numerous ABC documentaries.

The full array of accommodation is available and popular motels, hotels, bed and breakfast, farm stay and small resorts are available, along with popular camping spots.

Braidwood is on the Kings Highway, one hour from Bateman’s Bay on the South Coast and one hour from Canberra.
